Spies and Brownies

“Oh hi, you came.”
“Just for a second, to bring over brownies and welcome you to the neighbourhood.”

Have you guys heard about the tv show ‘The Americans’? I came upon it by accident a week or so ago and ever since then I can hardly think of anything else. Its first season came out in 2013 and so far there are 3 seasons of this show. I think season 4 is supposed to come out this year too…

I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who has not seen it yet and might want to watch it so I won’t give too much away… It’s basically about two Russian KGB spies that are integrated into the American society during the Cold War. The two spies, Elizabeth and Philip Jennings, are leading double lives – on the one hand they’re pretending to be an ordinary American family (they’re married and they have two kids) but on the other hand they’re juggling their responsibilities as informants. It’s hard already as it is but matters are further complicated when an FBI agent moves into the neighbourhood.

The acting is wonderful, the plot is intense and Philip (Matthew Rhys) is an absolute cutie. The style – clothes, music and the like – are also on point. It’s a tv show that is well worth a watch so if you’ve got nothing to do this evening, make yourself a cup of tea, pop yourself some popcorn and settle in for a cozy adventure with ‘The Americans’.
